Fishing/Weather Update
Posted by Samuel in Fishing reports on 10 15th, 2009Just wanted to Update everyone on the Fishing conditions and weather down at Bull Shoals Lake. The fishing on the lake has been really excellent for the past two weeks. We have been cathing scores of fish in about 20-30 feet of water as the fish are starting to move down a little bit due to the cold. Which leads me to the next update… the weather. It is starting to get really cold!! We were down their last weekend at it got down to 30 at night! That is really starting to get cold. So with the weather turning there are really about a month left to enjoy the great fishing so if you are planning on getting any fishing in then you will want to hurry!

Missouri Lake News
Posted by Samuel in News on 10 12th, 2009Update: Lake of the Ozarks Environmental hazard
This is an update on the previous story about the untreated sewage leak into the Lake of the Ozarks:
The city of Lake Ozark has been sentenced in the case involving a sewage spill over that occurred in the fall of 2007. According to United States District Court documents just recently filed, the small town faces a $50,000 fine and 5 years probation. The fine will be spread out in annual payments over the course of the next 5 years.
The township made its first $10,000 payment on the day of the sentencing hearing, April 22, in the state capital, Jefferson City. Mayor Johnnie Franzeskos appeared before the judge on behalf of the city. His appearance was mainly symbolic as he did not attempt to argue the charges and fines seeing as how the Lake Ozark Board of Aldermen unanimously accepted the terms of the U.S. District Attorneys Office plea agreement during a closed session meeting on Aug. 6, 2008.
The bilge water spill was reported in September 2007 after a lift station failed and subsequently untreated waste water flowed into Lake of the Ozarks. The spill over was investigated by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The Department of Natural Resources notified the city of the leak in the pipes and the city responded to the concerns by stopping the flow. The city did nothing however to clean up the swill that had already flown out of the broken pipe and simply noted it in its documentation of the incident. This is the main reason the city has been charged with a crime, they made no attempt to clean up the area affected by the polluted water.
In correlation to the offense Ozark city was charged with a felony count of illegality of discharge radiological chemicals according to court documents.
Besides the fine and the probation, the city is also spending $300,000 on a sewer study in addition to upgrades and improvements to the sewer system, as a result of the spill.
All in all this is a pretty harsh penalty to hand out, but it is definitely necessary and will hopefully go a long way in influencing the city to do the right thing if a situation like this ever arises again.

Bull Shoals Lake Fishing Update
Posted by Samuel in Fishing reports on 10 5th, 2009Hey there, just wanted to update everyone on the Fishing at Bull Shoals Lake. We were down at the lake this weekend (10/2/2009) and the fishing was really starting to pick up. In about 3 hours of fishing on Saturday morning we caught 5 keepers between the 3 of us (which were great for dinner that night) including 3 really nice sized Bass. In general the fishing conditions in the lake are really starting to become ideal, we should definitly be in for some great fishing the next 2-3 weeks in most spots on the lake. This time of year is typically a great time to fish on Bull Shoals Lake, and in large part due to the high waters of the past month this year is proving to be no exception. We are planning on going down both of the next two weekends and will post our results/advice then. If you headed to Bull Shoals anytime soon Good luck fishing and hopefully you enjoy the great fishing right now.
Sptolight Stockton Lake
Posted by Samuel in Missouri Vacations on 10 1st, 2009In this blog post we are going to do a spotlight on Stockton Lake in the southwestern part of Missouri. Stockton offers breathtaking scenery accompanied by close to three hundred miles of immaculate shoreline. Stockton Lake also boasts in the neighborhood of 25,000 acres of clear waterway. This lake is truly and unspoiled gem in the Missouri Ozarks and a perfect place to kick back and relax on a weekend getaway with the family. Wildlife is abundant alongside the shoreline and varies depending on the time of year you visit. In the fall/Spring visitors can see deer at the waters edge, and the occasional turkey crossing the road. For those bird watchers out there Bald eagles are often sited near the lake, with several having made Stockton Lake their home. Stockton is the perfect family lake, mainly seeing as how there is something for everyone. Water skiing and wake boarding is especially popular on the lake because it is usually fairly easy to find a protected cove through the daytime and always in the evening. Fishermen love Stockton for its exceptional walleye fishing, the lake has become renown in the Midwest and is really viewed as one of the best lakes to fish for Walleye around. Stockton Lake is rated one of the top 10 sailing lakes in the United States. Steady breezes and open waterfront make for great runs up and down the lake. There are many campgrounds encompassing the lake and surrounding country for those of you that want to be one with nature. Our locale is growing, but is a long way from being crowded and overpopulated. The non polluted lake water makes those refreshing dips on a hot summer weekday rather enjoyable. We are very proud of our lake and hope you will come and enjoy it and our Ozark hospitality.
